Ferrous scrap is iron-based metal: mild steel, cast iron, stainless steel, sheet cuttings, turnings and structural material. It is the highest volume category we handle and is graded mostly by thickness, cleanliness and how much rust or non-metal is attached.Ferrous Metal — common questions
- What counts as ferrous scrap?
- Iron-based metal: mild steel, general iron, cast iron, stainless steel, and machining turnings and borings. A magnet sticks to most of it, though some stainless grades such as SS 304 are non-magnetic.
- How is ferrous scrap graded?
- Mostly by thickness, cleanliness and how much rust or non-metal is attached. Heavy sections above roughly 6 mm carry the better grade, and cast iron and stainless steel are each bought at their own rate, so keep them out of a general iron load.
- Do you collect regularly from workshops?
- Yes. For workshops and engineering units we can place bins on site and collect on a fixed cycle, with a monthly settlement instead of ad-hoc sales.
