About tin & tinplate scrap

Tinplate is mild steel coated with a very thin layer of tin to resist corrosion. Because the steel gauge is light, it is compacted or baled before shipping to induction melting furnaces.

Clean, unpainted tins without residual oils or food waste fetch the highest price. We buy both individual lots and regular bulk clearance from commercial kitchens and packaging units.

Grades and sub-types

We sort and weigh each grade separately in front of you rather than averaging a mixed load down to its lowest rate.

What decides the rate

Rates move with the market, so we do not publish fixed numbers. These are the factors we assess when quoting tin & tinplate scrap.

Cleanliness

Empty, drained tins without oil residue earn the higher grade.

Compaction

Baled or flattened tins transport efficiently and command a better rate.

Quantity

Bulk lots from commercial kitchens and factories earn premium pricing.

Get the better grade

  1. Empty all residual oil or liquid from tins before collection.
  2. Flatten or crush cans where possible to maximize load density.
  3. Keep dry and separate from soil or masonry rubble.

Where it ends up

Baled and remelted in secondary steel furnaces for reinforcement bars and wire rods.

Tin & Tinplate Scrap — common questions

Do you buy 15-litre oil tins in bulk?
Yes, we regularly collect empty edible oil tins from restaurants, bakeries, and catering units with free doorstep pickup.
How is tin scrap priced compared to heavy iron?
Because tinplate is lighter gauge and has higher furnace burn-off, it is priced slightly below heavy structural iron, tracking about 65%–75% of the mild steel scrap rate.
