About precious-metal e-scrap

Board grading is a real discipline. High-grade boards — server motherboards, telecom line cards, processors and memory modules — carry meaningfully more recoverable gold, palladium and silver than a low-grade power supply or television board. Sold together as one bucket of 'e-waste', the high-grade material subsidises the low-grade and you lose the difference.

We separate at intake: processors and gold pins in one class, populated high-grade boards in another, mid-grade PC and networking boards next, and low-grade boards last. You see which of your material fell into which class before we quote.

Recovery of precious metals from boards involves chemical processing that must be done by a licensed facility. We do not process boards ourselves — they move to an authorised recycler, and we can provide the handover trail if you need it for corporate disposal records.

Grades and sub-types

We sort and weigh each grade separately in front of you rather than averaging a mixed load down to its lowest rate.

What decides the rate

Rates move with the market, so we do not publish fixed numbers. These are the factors we assess when quoting precious-metal e-scrap.

Board class

Class is the main driver — server-grade sits well above consumer-grade.

Component density

Populated boards with connectors and ICs recover more than stripped ones.

Plating quality

Thicker, wider gold plating on pins and fingers raises the class.

Lot consistency

A uniform lot of one class is quoted better than a mixed bucket.

Get the better grade

  1. Sort server and telecom boards away from consumer boards before pickup.
  2. Leave boards populated — stripping components off lowers the class.
  3. Arrange data wiping or drive destruction before disposal, and ask us for a record of it.
  4. For corporate disposal, get the authorisation paperwork ready in advance.

Where it ends up

Sent to authorised refiners that recover gold, silver, palladium and copper for reuse in new electronics.

Do you pay more for server boards than PC boards?
Yes, clearly. Board class drives the rate, which is why we sort rather than buying everything as one grade.
What happens to data on the equipment?
Storage media should be wiped or destroyed before disposal. We can arrange drive destruction and provide a handover record for your IT asset register.
Can I sell just a few processors?
Yes, small lots are welcome at either branch, though larger consignments are the ones worth arranging a collection for.
