About computers & laptops scrap

A desktop is really several materials in one box: a steel or aluminium chassis, a power supply with copper windings, a motherboard and add-in cards, drives, and cabling. We assess these together, but the board grade is what usually decides the value. Servers and workstations sit above ordinary desktops for exactly that reason.

Working equipment is a separate conversation. If a machine still has working life, refurbishment is worth more than recycling, and we will say so rather than buying a functional unit at scrap weight. That is particularly true of recent laptops.

For office disposal the process matters as much as the price: an itemised list of assets, drive wiping or physical destruction, a signed handover, and routing to an authorised e-waste recycler so your disposal record stands up to audit. CRT monitors are handled separately, as they need controlled processing.

We sort and weigh each grade separately in front of you rather than averaging a mixed load down to its lowest rate.

What decides the rate

Rates move with the market, so we do not publish fixed numbers. These are the factors we assess when quoting computers & laptops scrap.

Board grade

Server and workstation boards carry far more recoverable value than consumer boards.

Completeness

Complete units are worth more than stripped chassis with boards removed.

Working condition

Functional recent equipment may be worth more refurbished than recycled.

Quantity

Bulk office disposals are quoted as a job with documentation included.

Get the better grade

  1. Wipe or remove drives first — or ask us to destroy them and give you the record.
  2. Keep power supplies, cables and accessories with the units; they add copper value.
  3. List assets by tag number before disposal so the handover matches your register.
  4. Declare any swollen or damaged batteries when booking the collection.
